Vintage Parker 51 Aerometric 14kt Gold Nib
The parker 51 is one of the most famous fountain pens ever made. It was called the "51" in honor of being designed the 51st year of parker being in business. It came out in 1941 and was produced all the way into 1972. This is a second generation "aerometric" parker 51 from the early 1950's. It does not have a date code, as was common for pens manufactured during this time. It has an "aerometric" filling system - much easier to use than the early vacumatics. Please note, when i received this pen, the internal filler and sac guard were damaged so i have replaced it with spare parts from a "parker 51 special" which is why the filler says 51 special.
" this is not a parker 51 special, it is a "normal parker 51 with its original 14kt gold nib. Convenient slip-cap - uncaps quickly, great for taking notes. Innovative "collector" surrounding the feed allows the pen to stay uncapped for long durations and not dry out. Consistent firm fine 14kt gold nib.
It has some feedback and a bit of a sweet spot but writes reliably. Easy to use "aerometric" squeeze filler. Just unscrew the body of the pen, put the front of the pen into some ink, and press the metal bar.
Wait a few seconds, and you are good to go. For optimal filling do this 2-3 times or until you stop seeing bubbles. Thoroughly cleaned and tested - ready to write.
Pretty good condition nice and shiny black plastic. There is some minor wear and scuffing and two larger (but still small) scratches towards the end of the pen.
There is a small scratch on the clutch ring. The cap is in good condition with no dents but has a scratch going around, likely from the clip. As mentioned above, the filler is "incorrect" as it says "parker 51 special" but it is functionally identical to the original filler. The original one was damaged so i have replaced it with spare parts from another pen. I have tested it and it fills perfectly.
Nib is reliable but as mentioned above has some feedback and a little bit of a sweet spot (common with parker 51 fine nibs i have used) so it takes a little bit of time to get used to it.
