Sheaffer 777 Vintage Fountain Pen, Pencil and Ballpoint set, in original box withpapers, cartridges, button converter. 12kt gold filled.
This is a vintage sheaffer fountain pen, pencil, and reminder ballpoint set from the 1970s. It is in very good condition and comes with original box, paper, cartridges and push button converter.
It is gold filled and very shiny. Model: i believe this is a sheaffer 777, but admittedly, the naming of these later sheaffer models is a little confusing to me. These pens were produced during the imperial erawhen sheaffer was making many models with the inlaid nib. This fountain pen does not have the inlaid nib, it has a smaller version of the conical triumph nib. It has a long cap and a short clip.
The ballpoint is a reminder ballpoint, so the point retracts when the clip is used. The pencil is a twist mechanical pencil. All three pieces are gold filled with 12kt gold in a lined pattern. The set has the white dot, marking it as one of sheaffer's upper end models. Nib: the nib is a 14kt triumph nib.
The conical triumph nibs were designed to be stronger, but also as a way to improve ink flow. This nib is a firm, fine, and yes, smooth. As the pen looks like it has barely been used, if at all, there is tons of tipping material left.Work performed: set was polished and waxed. Converter was tested with water. Condition notes: this set is in decent/good to excellent shape, depending on the item.
The box is in decent shape. No cracks, and it closes correctly, but it's definitely seen a lot of drawer wear to the plastic and the paper wood paneling. The ball point pen is in good shape. It has definitely been used, shows an average amount of wear and microscratches, and will need a new cartridge. The pencil and fountain pen appear to have been never been used, or used extremely lightly.
There are very few microscratches on these items. The fountain pen is missing some fins from its feed (will not affect function).The pencil's eraser is intact, but may need to be replaced to work well. Overall, this set is in quite good shape.
Filling: the ball point takes cartridges and will need a replacement cartridge. The fountain pen takes skrip cartridges, or you can use the original button converter that is included. These button converters are rather desirable even on their own, and a little harder to come by than other types of sheaffer converters. Overall: the fact that this comes as a set, with all of its original papers and unused cartridges and converters, makes it an excellent item for collectors of this era of sheaffer pens.
However, it's also just a nice set for use. The gold is super shiny and will look stunning in your pocket or on your desk. This item is made of gold and gold filled.
