We cut the wood down to a 1x1x5 block, drill a hole for the ink, and attach the pen to a wood lathe. While it's on the lathe, we use gauges and skews to cut the wood to shape, and 6 different grades of sandpaper to give the pen a strong sheen and silky feel. Our 5 step finishing process took us over 2 years of trial and error to perfect, and we are confident that we have the best finish available today. Autumn woods has been using this finish since 2009, and we haven't received a single complaint. It leaves the pen feeling like wood, without being rough, and without feeling like it is covered in plastic, like many "ca" style finishes. The fountain style uses a parker brand ink cartridge (available in blue or black) and writes with a 24k gold, fine sized, german made fountain nib.The fountain style pen will arrive with an ink converter installed, and one replaceable ink cartridge.
